Campaign, used a vivid array of TEMPTU Pro products for
the fright-inspiring looks seen on this season’s Freak Show.
How was your experience working as the Lead Makeup Artist on American Horror Story Campaign?
My experience as The Makeup Designer and Lead Artist for this year’s American Horror Story Campaign, was truly a labor of love and such an incredible honor. These campaigns are fast and furious with just a couple days of prep and then a few days of shooting. It really is like doing a whole feature film in less than 10 days!
Where did you find your inspiration for creating the looks seen on American Horror Story's Ad Campaigns?
I always get my creative guidelines from the genius marketing team at FX Network and work closely with them throughout. They give me images and the direction they want things to go, then I take it from there. With this years vintage carnival theme I had a lot of fun researching old clowns and circus “freaks”. I was very inspired by the red and white big top circus tent pattern and incorporated that into several make up looks. Also, the color palette FX chose for this campaign was cool blue hues and saturated reds which I loved working with.
What look are you most proud of from this season of American Horror Story Ad Campaign?
I am so proud of all the images from this campaign, but one that is most personal is the giant tent dress shot. I had a last minute idea to add a black line from her chin to the center of her chest. The client trusted my idea, which made it risky, but seeing how it turned out paid off.

What made you choose TEMPTU products for American Horror Story Campaign?
TEMPTU is always a go to product for me when I have to create character or something shocking. The equipment is not only extremely user friendly, but the color selections and the pigment are, hands down the best. Not to mention that TEMPTU is such an artist friendly company, you can always get them on the phone and they are always there to help and support you.
How would you advise a makeup artist that is looking to break into Television work?
The best advice I can give to anyone looking to get into Television work, is to not give up. Keep networking with other artists instead of competing. You never know where an opportunity will come from, and keep your eye on the prize.
Do you have any tips or tricks on airbrushing that you would like to share?
I always tell my students to treat their equipment like an investment. Learning how to trouble shoot is crucial to airbrushing, as well as, knowing the equipment inside and out and how to care for it.
What are some TEMPTU products that you can’t live without?
I absolutely cannot live without my SP-35 duel action airbrush! It’s so lightweight and the level of control I have with the duel action is incredible. I’m a huge fan of both the Aqua and S/B lines I love the opacity of the Aqua and the flawless sheen of the S/B. I can completely change the color of someone, and then use the S/B to bring back the life like quality to the skin.
Is there anything that you would like to add for our Pro community?
If you can dream it, you can be it and create it.
